MODISON offers an Electron Beam Welding (EBW) Service, backed up by experienced staff and comprehensive metallurgical facilities. Feasibility and application studies are undertaken to enable potential users to evaluate the suitability of the technique for their products. Small batch production welding is also carried out.
The joint to be welded is heated by bombarding it with a dense stream of high velocity Electrons; the Kinetic energy of the Electrons is converted into heat on impact with the work piece, when focussed to a small spot on the component to be welded.
The energy can be many times greater than that of conventional welding process.
For example, 15 KW can be concentrated on to a 0.25 mm diameter. Weld depth to weld ratio as high as 20:01 can be achieved, compared with 2:1 typical of a tungsten inert gas welds.
Electron Beam Welding is used where high integrity and reliable joints are required. It is the most reliable joining process for welding certain materials with very high quality requirements. EB Welding has a high power density, with very low over all heat input, thereby giving minimum distortion. EB Welding has deep penetration, narrow fusion zone and inert atmosphere (Vacuum).
